Dear Wildwater Canoeing community,
If you have not read Newsletter 1 or Newsletter 2 please do so to ensure you have the important information relating to all things Wildwater Canoeing including the latest on the 2022 PA Wildwater Canoeing competition plan.
As you would be aware, PA had scheduled a Selection Competition at Eildon, Victoria from the 7th to the 9th of January 2022. Please see Selection Procedures Policy HERE, Selection Criteria Supplement for the Senior Team HERE, and Selection Criteria Supplement for the Junior and U/23 Team HERE.
Unfortunately Paddle Victoria (PVIC) has confirmed to PA, on behalf of the PVIC Wildwater Canoeing Technical Committee, they do not have enough volunteers available to run the selection competition at Eildon from the 7th to the 9th of January 2022. Consequently, PVIC does not have the capacity on this occasion to host the competition. PA therefore has no option but to cancel the Selection Competition at Eildon in January.
PA is currently looking at alternate options for a PA Wildwater Canoeing Selection competition. We will notify the Wildwater Canoeing community next Tuesday 21st December if a new competition location and date has been secured. You will note, that if a Selection competition is not possible there is an alternate option for National Team selection detailed in the Selection Criteria Supplement.
A reminder that to be eligible for selection to a 2022 National Team, athletes must comply with the PA Selection Procedures Policy in particular clause 6, Eligibility. Athletes/crews who are prepared to travel to the Competitions must nominate for selection, stating their full name and the Class(es) for which they wish to be considered to wildwater@paddle.org.au by 15 December 2021. For all other criteria please refer to the Selection Criteria Supplement.
Finally, all athletes/crews who are prepared to travel to the Competitions must confirm their nomination for selection, stating their full name and the Class(es) for which they wish to be considered to wildwater@paddle.org.au, including fulfilling all eligibility requirements by 31st of January 2022.
While we understand that this is not ideal, we believe we are offering a fair opportunity to the whole Wildwater community.
PA are looking forward to the 2022 Wildwater Canoeing competition program returning and the 2022 PA Wildwater Canoeing Championships in August in Perth WA.
