PA Wildwater Canoeing – Newsletter 2

Wildwater

Dear Wildwater Canoeing community,

The 2022 Paddle Australia Wildwater Canoeing Championships (Nationals) will be held in Perth, WA from the 5-7 August. This is the week prior to the 49th Avon Decent scheduled for the 12-14 August in Perth, WA. Paddle Australia (PA) is excited about the opportunity to have a National Championship in Western Australia and provide the paddling community with a chance to explore another river.

The 2022 ICF World Championships for Wildwater Canoeing will be held in Treignac, France from the 2-5 June with World Cups to follow in Celje, Slovenia. The ICF Wildwater Technical Committee (WWTC) is pursuing other opportunities for international competition. On the basis that these events will proceed, and international travel can continue, PA is scheduling a Selection Competition at Eildon in VIC from 7-9 January 2022. Please see Selection Procedures Policy (here), Selection Criteria Supplement for the Senior Team (here), and Selection Criteria Supplement for the Junior and U/23 Team (here).

To be eligible for selection to a 2022 National Team, athletes must comply with the PA Selection Procedures Policy in particular clause 6, Eligibility. Athletes/crews who are prepared to travel to the Competitions must nominate for selection, stating their full name and the Class(es) for which they wish to be considered to wildwater@paddle.org.au by 15 December 2021. For all other criteria please refer to the Selection Criteria Supplement.

If, after the closing date for nominations, there are more than four (4) nominations in a Class(es) and, due to border restrictions not all crews are able to travel to the Selection Competition without being required to undertake hotel quarantine, selection in the Class(es) concerned will be based on a process outlined in the Selection Criteria Supplement. This process needs to be undertaken by the 25 January 2022.

Finally, all athletes/crews who are prepared to travel to the Competitions must confirm their nomination for selection, stating their full name and the Class(es) for which they wish to be considered to wildwater@paddle.org.au, including fulfilling all eligibility requirements by 31 January 2022.

While we understand that this is not ideal, we believe we are offering a fair opportunity to the whole wildwater community.

PA are looking forward to the 2022 Wildwater Canoeing competition program returning with the 2022 Selection Competition in January in Eildon VIC, and the 2022 PA Wildwater Canoeing Championships in August in Perth WA.

Yours in paddling,

PAWCTC
