CEO Blog – February 2022

February was certainly an exciting month for all of us at Paddle Australia, and has set the tone for what we hope will be a big year with the return of events.

The 2022 ICF Oceania Canoe Slalom Championships kicked off a jam-packed 2022 Events Calendar, and it was great to see our Canoe Slalom community back together again. Congratulations to all those that attended and the winners across the canoe, kayak and extreme slalom events and good luck for the Australian Open in Penrith this weekend. (click here for more)

Last weekend we held our first Canoe Sprint event of the year, the 2022 PA Canoe Sprint Grand Prix 2 at Sydney International Regatta Centre. Well done to everyone, it was great to see you all back on the water again. (click here for more)

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who so generously give up their time to ensure that our events run smoothly. Volunteers are the heart and soul of our sport, and our competitions and events simply would not be possible without their support.

This month, we were also proud to receive the news that paddler Noemie Fox has been selected as an ambassador for the Australian Institute of Sport’s Thrive with Pride program. We are also working closely with Pride In Sport as one of 12 National Sporting Organisations taking part in the Pride in Sport Collective (click here for more)

As we look ahead to March, it is set to be another busy month. We are encouraging as many clubs as possible across the country to get involved with Clean Up Australia Day. PaddleNSW has led the charge in recent years, with nine clubs/groups participating last year; and Paddle Australia would love to see participation in every state across Australia this year (find out more).

We are also enjoying seeing our communities #MyPaddleOz content, and welcome everyone to share your paddling videos, photos and stories across social media, tagging #MyPaddleOz and @paddle_australia. Keep them coming!

Yours in Paddling,

Phil Jones
