A Unified Focus on the Future

As is noted above, in 2024, the overall Champions of both the Men’s and Women’s categories in all Canoe Wildwater events will not be awarded. After extensive consultation with stakeholders and with the athletes and volunteers interests at heart, this decision reflects a strategic choice made by the Discipline Technical Committee with the support of the Paddle Australia Board. It is rooted in a commitment to the sport’s values and its enduring mission to foster inclusivity, engagement and long-term sustainability.

The Discipline Technical Committee remains steadfast in its mission to create a more inclusive and positive environment within the wildwater canoeing community, and is committed to deliver a 2025 National event. This transformation must extend from grassroots at the community level to the pinnacle of the national stage. A cultural shift takes time and unwavering attention, and it requires building an environment where the principles of inclusivity, sportsmanship and shared experiences take precedence.

Your active participation and contributions are instrumental in solidifying wildwater canoeing as an activity that nurtures inspiration and unity throughout the country.
