Paddle Australia (PA) and the International Canoe Federation (ICF) have confirmed the race schedule for the 2023 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships and Masters World Championships.
After consultation with the Bureau of Meteorology and in view of the forecast conditions, a decision has been made by the ICF and PA, to run the SS-1 World Championships on Thursday 30 November, with the SS-2 World Championships to be raced on Saturday 2 December. The decision has been made with the unanimous support of the Host Organising Committee.
This proactive decision was made in accordance with the ICF rules, which allow for a four-day race window. It will provide all competitors, the vast majority of whom are already in Perth, with the best opportunity to race in the most favourable conditions. There is a greater opportunity to showcase the world class downwind paddling conditions in Western Australia, by holding the SS-1 World Championships on the first day of the racing window.
We understand that there may be a limited number of paddlers whose current travel plans may be impacted by this decision. It is hoped that by making an early decision, those involved can make any necessary changes. We ask that any concerns are communicated with the relevant Team Managers, so that these can be addressed at the Team Managers meeting on the morning of Tuesday 28 November.
