AUSSIES LOOKING TO TEST THEMSELVES IN PARIS

Following on from their most successful World Championships campaign to date, the Australian Sprint Kayak and Paracanoe team have arrived in Paris ahead of the final international event of the season.

The ICF Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe World Cup 3 event will get underway on Wednesday 30 August, doubling as a test event for next year’s Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. To more closely mimic the Paris Games, athletes will only race in events that are in the Olympic and Paralympic programmes.

After celebrating yesterday’s one year to go milestone, and being named co-captain of the Australian Paralympic Team for the Paris Games, Curtis McGrath said he’s looking forward to seeing the course this week.

After celebrating yesterday’s one year to go milestone, and being named co-captain of the Australian Paralympic Team for the Paris Games, Curtis McGrath said he’s looking forward to seeing the course this week.

“Paris Olympics and Paralympics is going to be an amazing event, it’s all about building up to what’s the pinnacle of our sport,” McGrath said.

“This World Cup is more about having a reconnaissance mission, and having a look around at what’s going to host next years’ Games.

“I think it will be nice to see the venue, how the wind blows, where the waves are, where to get one, where to get off…

“It’s nice to have that opportunity to see where we are all hoping to race in 12 months’ time,” he said.

World Championships silver medalist Jackson Collins said although the excitement is there to be going to Paris, he’s going to be treating this weekend like any other international regatta.

“I’m trying not to overthink it too much, for me it’s about going there and enjoying some more international racing,” Collins said. “We love racing so let’s just go and have another race,” he said.
