CEO BLOG – JUNE 2023

If you follow the Paddle Australia social media accounts, you’ll know that June has been an extremely busy month for our Canoe Slalom Team, who competed in three World Cup events over three consecutive weekends.

Congratulations to Jessica Fox, who won four gold medals from the three events. We also had a string of impressive personal best results, with Lucien Delfor finishing in the top-10 of all three Men’s C1 World Cups, and Noemie Fox and Tristan Carter both securing 4th place finishes in Ljubljana-Tacen. I also want to extend my congratulations to development athletes Georgie O’Callaghan, Seb Montalto and Mark Crosbee who all made their Senior World Cup debuts this month, with Mark making it all the way through to the Men’s C1 final in Slovenia.

We had Melbourne’s Robert Janiszewski and Western Australia’s Georgina Collin representing Australia at the Wildwater World Championships in Augsburg Germany, with Collin finishing 16th and missing the K1 final by less than half-a-second, while Janiszewski was 18th in the men’s C1.

It’s been pleasing to see a spike in entries this month for the ICF Ocean Racing World Championships and Masters World Championships coming to Perth at the end of the year, and I encourage anyone thinking about registering to sign up to this fantastic once-in-a-lifetime event, right on our doorstep.

Coming into July, it’s time for our up and coming paddlers to shine at the Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Italy, and the Junior and U23 Wildwater World Championships in Czech Republic.

It’s also the time for the many members on fixed date memberships to renew your paddling membership to keep you protected on the water. You can find out more about the membership renewal process in this month’s Paddle Pulse.

Until next month, and as always, stay safe when exploring our beautiful waterways!
