UPDATE PA Canoe Slalom Age Championships

Slalom

Please see the below update in relationship 2021 PA Canoe Slalom Age Championships, scheduled to take place at Eildon in Victoria on 27th and 28th November.

Unfortunately, the current COVID-19 pandemic continues to challenge us, with state border closures Australia-wide. The safety and wellbeing of our paddlers is our highest priority. Equally, we recognise the need for certainty to allow paddlers and their families to plan their attendance at PA national events, often requiring flights and accommodation bookings. A national level event must allow all paddlers the opportunity to participate.

Therefore, in consultation with Paddle Victoria, the local organising committee, and in accordance with the PA National Level Competitions policy (click here), PA has sadly had to make the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 PA Canoe Slalom Age Championships as a national level event.

It is very disappointing to have had to first postpone this Championships from the original dates, and to now have to withdraw its status as National Championships.

However, Paddle Victoria still aims to hold a state level competition on the same dates if restrictions allow. Further updates will be provided in the coming weeks as Paddle Victoria  closely monitor the situation. For athletes who are able travel to Eildon in Victoria to take part please send enquiries regarding this competition to vicslalomtechcommittee@gmail.com.

The positive news is the 2022 PA Canoe Slalom Age Championships are not far away, being scheduled for the 7th to 9th January 2022 in Eildon, Victoria.

Paddle Australia particularly wishes to thank the local organisers for their dedication and tireless work in very difficult circumstances to try to provide competition opportunities for young paddlers in our community.

Our strong sense is that people want to get together and enjoy the challenge and camaraderie of competition. We look forward, with your help, to future Slalom competitions, including the Age Championships, being a celebration of white-water paddling in Australia.

On a final note, please look after your friends and family, and we hope that 2022 brings with it a brighter outlook for everyone.
