Vale Keith Lyons

It is with great sadness that we pass on the news that the paddling community lost one of its great contributors last week. Keith Lyons died on the 13th of May.

Keith was an educator and sport scientist and made a huge contribution to paddling as a Paddle Australia director (2009-2013) as well as a Volunteer, Coach, Parent and Sports Scientist in Slalom.

After arriving in Australia in 2002 to take up a position at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Keith and his family became very involved in paddling, specifically in Slalom.

Keith was involved as a volunteer coach and official, with the family being involved through his wife Sue, as Chair of the Technical committee and Sam being both a National Slalom Team member and Paddle Australia (then Australian Canoeing) employee.

Keith was a big supporter of the High-Performance program through his role as head of Performance Analysis at the AIS. He was also the founding Director of the Institute of Sport Studies at the University of Canberra.

He was a universally liked and a great contributor to the sport of paddling and canoe slalom in Australia and our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Keith Lyons obituary:

A small funeral will be held in Canberra on the 20th May at 4pm (Canberra time).
