Lucien Delfour and Daniel Watkins Join Jessica Fox for Tokyo 2020

Daniel Watkins and Lucien Delfour will take on the Canoe Slalom whitewater in Tokyo, after being selected to the Australian Olympic Team today.

Delfour and Watkins secured their ticket to Tokyo by winning the Paddle Australia selection trials in February in K1 and C1 respectively, with the pair coming out on top in their event across the 2020 Oceania Canoe Slalom Championships in Auckland and 2020 Australian Open Canoe Slalom in Penrith.

The MAKAI Cup Produces Wild Weather, Strong Performances and Broken Boats

The MAKAI Cup 2020, hosted by MAKAI Paddlers and incorporating the 2020 PA Canoe Ocean Racing Championships, was held over the 8th-9th February in Ulladulla on the NSW south coast. With strong winds and swells, the conditions tested even the most experienced paddlers, not to mention their boats! Danielle Woodward Honoured for Contribution to Police
 
Danielle Woodward was recently inducted into PA's Hall of Fame for her services to paddling throughout a her career as a canoe slalom paddler, sports administrator and  PA Director and President. Woodward was further honoured on Australia Day this year as a recipient of the Australian Police Medal for distinguished service to the Australian police force.

We congratulate Danielle on the significant contribution to the community she has made in her many different roles.

Clean Up Australia Day - 1st March
 
Clean Up Australia Day is taking place this year on Sunday 1st March 2020.  Waste affects everybody however paddlers will be particularly aware of how mismanaged waste harms our waterways and natural environment.

So we encourage all paddlers, individuals or clubs, to join the Clean Up Australia Day movement this Sunday!

MEMBER UPDATES
Update to PA Event Entry Waiver
 
As of 1st March 2020, Paddle Australia will be introducing a new Event Entry Waiver to apply to events and programs run by PA, State Associations and Affiliated Clubs. 

The changes which have been implemented are:
  • An update to the wording relating to prevailing conditions (due to recent air quality issues).
  • An update to the wording relating to insurance to clarify that it is not only members covered by insurance but also those who have paid the Non-Member Single Event fee.

Australia Secures Five Additional Olympic Canoe Sprint Quota Spots

Five months out from the Tokyo 2020 Games, Australia’s canoe sprint paddlers have wrapped up the 2020 Oceania Canoe Sprint Association’s Canoe Sprint Continental Championships and Olympic qualifier securing five additional Olympic canoe sprint quota spots and setting a first mark ahead of the final round Olympic team selections in March.
