Olympian Champions Jean van der Westhuyzen (QLD) and Tom Green (QLD) were back on the World Cup podium overnight, winning bronze in the Men’s K2 500 in Poznan, Poland.
The duo flew down the course, to finish only 0.51 seconds behind the gold medalists from Lithuania, and only 0.22 seconds behind Germany in silver.
It’s the pair’s second consecutive K2 500 World Cup medal from as many events, after they won silver in Hungary two weeks ago.
There was very familiar competition in the lane directly next to them, with Aussie teammates and recent K4 500 silver medallists Riley Fitzsimmons (NSW) and Jackson Collins (QLD) also competing in the K2 500 A-Final, finishing 8th.
Earlier in the Finals session on the last day of racing in Poland, Ben Manning (QLD) placed 8th in the C1 500 A-Final and Pierre van der Westhuyzen (QLD) 8th in the K1 500 A-Final. Noah Havard (QLD) also finished third in the K1 500 B-Final.
The Australian Canoe Sprint will now return home to the Gold Coast for a training block before the Senior World Championships in Augsburg, Germany, which doubles as the Paris 2024 Olympic qualification event, running 23-27 August.
