Paddle Australia (PA) is pleased to confirm the Australian team for the upcoming 2022 ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championships.
Being held from 6-9 October in Viana Do Castelo, Portugal, it will be the first time Australian athletes have participated in the event since 2019.
Mackenzie Hynard is back on the Australian team for 2022 and is looking forward to the opportunity to be back at the World Championships.
“Unfortunately with COVID it has been some time since I have been able to race at World Championships, the last being in 2019 in France,” he said.
“It is a humbling feeling to be on the Australian Team headed to Portugal this year and I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to race for my country for the fifth time.”
The former World U23 Oceanski Champion will hit the ground running in the lead-up to World Championships, competing in a multi-day paddling event in Asia in early September followed by numerous local and Australian Ocean Racing Series events.
“After being out of the saddle, so to say, for a little while, I am optimistic but realistic about my goals for World Championships,” Hynard said.
“A top 3 results in all these events are the goal, however, I am more determined and hungrier than ever so I guess will just have to wait and see.”
At the 2019 edition of the tournament, Australia took home 15 medals including four golds across the Junior, Under 23’s, Open and Masters events.
