Australian Canoe Slalom Team prepared for ICF Slalom World Cup 3 showdown in Slovenia

The Australian Canoe Slalom Team have made their way to Ljubljana-Tacen in Slovenia for the ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup 3.

It marks their third consecutive weekend of World Cup action following the opening World Cup in Prague which saw Jess Fox claim K1 gold, and last week’s event in Poland where Jess won back-to-back K1 golds and Noemie Fox won Extreme Slalom silver.

With two K1 gold medals already this season, but a few mistakes in the C1 finals, Olympic Champion Jess Fox said she starts every weekend like a clean slate.

“Whatever happens the week before doesn’t change the importance of a race,” she said

“I am always out there trying to do the best runs I can and push the limits.”

Like her big sister Jess, Noemie is also competing in all three Slalom disciplines – the K1, C1 and new Olympic discipline Extreme Slalom. Although a big race program, Noemie said the variety of events gives her more opportunities for success.

“I think every weekend is a new learning opportunity and doing three categories definitely gives me a few opportunities out there,” she said.

“It is tough backing up each week in the three categories but it’s been a lot of fun.”

Australia will also welcome three additions to the team this weekend, with Georgina Collin rejoining the ranks for the Women’s K1, Angus Thompson lining up in the Men’s K1 and Lachlan Bassett making his Senior World Cup debut in the Men’s C1.

The ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup will get underway in Ljubljana, Slovenia on Friday 24 June, with the kayak and canoe heats.
