The 2022 Paddle Australia Canoe Sprint Championships will finally get underway tomorrow at West Lakes in South Australia.
After significant flooding in the Greater Sydney damaged the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith and impacted the water quality, the 2022 Canoe Sprint Championships were originally moved from mid-April to mid-May, and moved from Penrith back to Adelaide, where the last national sprint championships were held in 2021.
After an unpredictable start to the year, Paddle Australia is excited to welcome the Canoe Sprint community back to South Australia for a great week of paddle action.
Here are 5 things you need to know about the 2022 Paddle Australia Canoe Sprint Championships
- WHEN: The Championships will run over five days from Wednesday 18 – 22 May. Competition starts at 8am every day, expect Sunday, where final action starts at 9am
2. WHO: 225 athletes from the 12-year-old category all the way up to Masters +55 category will compete at West Lakes over the next five days. The most competitive age groups will be the Men’s and Women’s U16 and U18 categories which have the greatest number of entries.
Due to the postponement of the 2022 PA Canoe Sprint Championships, the new dates have meant the Australian Senior World Cup Team and Para Canoe World Cup Team are overseas, with the Senior Canoe Sprint Team competing in the 2022 ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Racice, Czech Republic this weekend. We wish our National Team athletes every success.
