Paddle Australia is pleased to welcome Brett Johnstone as the new Executive Officer of Paddle Tasmania.
Under the new United Paddling Management Workforce model, the Executive Officer is employed by Paddle Australia to work closely with the Paddle Tasmania Board and the PA Executive Management team to effectively develop operational plans, aligned to the Strategic Plan for Paddling in Australia, and to effectively raise the profile of paddle across Tasmania.
Johnstone joins Paddle Tasmania with a strong background in community sport organisations at all levels from his extensive volunteering and administration and Board roles across cricket, basketball and Little Athletics.
When asked why he was attracted to the role Johnstone said: “I have always had a strong attraction to sport and for a number of years have done similar roles on a volunteer basis.”
“It was a great opportunity to join Paddle Tasmania and Paddle Australia, and I am looking forward to it, ” he said.
With his previous experiences Johnstone understands the challenges for clubs of the increasingly complex accountability and administration requirements while trying to maintain and increase membership and provide valuable member experiences.
He also has a strong background in business, having owned and operated all aspects of a successful business in Tasmania from 2001 to 2020.
Johnstone’s focus in his new role will be centred around uniting the Tasmanian paddling community.
“My focus is going to be trying to unite the paddling community in Tasmania, across the different paddling disciplines, and also ensuring that we are doing all the right things from a governance viewpoint,” Johnstone said.
“We’re also looking to implement additional strategies to keep current members and attract new members.
“I’m looking forward to a positive future with Paddle Tasmania and Paddle Australia,” he said.
