Adelaide confirmed as new location for Australian Canoe Sprint Championships
Paddle Australia is pleased to announce West Lakes in Adelaide, South Australia (SA) as the new venue for the 2021 Paddle Australia Canoe Sprint Championships from 19-23 May.
This decision follows Thursday’s announcement (click HERE) of the algae outbreak and poor water quality that are affecting the Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC) in Penrith NSW. With these issues not having resolved themselves satisfactorily, it has been necessary to source an alternative venue.
Paddle Australia has worked with stakeholders to find the best alternative solution, with start gates from SIRC in Penrith to be shipped to West Lakes to ensure the highest quality racing standards for competitors.
Paddle Australia CEO Phil Jones, said that while the change of venue will cause participants and supporters disruption, PA is committed to delivering a quality event for all.
“We know the last 12 months has been very disruptive for our paddle community, between COVID and natural disasters.
“That is why we are committed to delivering the 2021 Paddle Australia Canoe Sprint Championships, while ensuring safety is at the forefront of our delivery.
“We want to thank the paddle community for being so supportive during these uncertain times.
“We will have more details about the event in the coming days and look forward to welcoming you all to Adelaide,” he said.
Paddle Australia will continue to monitor the State border situations given recent closures with WA. While we know this may impact some competitors ability to travel, PA is committed to delivering the event however the event status may be changed based on previously published guidelines. Paddle Australia will make further updates regarding this closer to the event.
