2021 PA Canoe Sprint Championships – Newsletter 2

NEWSLETTER 2

9 April 2021

Dear Canoe Sprint Community,

Preparations are progressing well for the 2021 Canoe Sprint Championships (Sprint Championships) to be held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC) in Penrith NSW from 19-23 May.

This newsletter builds on from the information supplied in Newsletter 1. If you have not read Newsletter 1 you can do so by clicking HERE

EVENT PARTICIPANT ENTRIES

Paddler registration and event entries are now open. To enter please click HERE

Previously the new fee schedule was outlined, confirming a base entry fee of $50 for Juniors, and $100 for Senior/U23 and Masters paddlers. In addition, there will be a seat fee of $25 per event.

Updates on entries

What was not confirmed was that PA has capped entries for Juniors at $200 and Seniors at $225. (Previously the flat entry for Juniors was $210 and Seniors $290).  This should reduce most if not all paddlers entry fees to the Sprint Championships.

EVENT VOLUNTEER ENTRIES

Update on NEW volunteer registration

Next week we will be launching Volunteer Registrations for the Sprint Championships. Our events could not happen without the generous people who give up their time and skills to volunteer to run events. This year’s Sprint Championships is no different and we need volunteers more than ever. There will be more information to come next week. There is a volunteer role to suit everyone.

EVENT RACE SCHEDULE

Updates on race schedule and new events

We will be having ski races in the 1000m and 500m distances with heats and finals on Saturday 22 May. Paddlers in both surf ski and ocean racing ski boats can enter. I encourage all participants in the Sprint Championships to consider bringing their own ski to race these events, and to tell all your friends who have a ski to get on board and enter the Sprint Championships ski events.

In next week’s newsletter I will confirm other exciting paddling disciplines that we are hoping can also join the kayak, canoe and ski boats competing in the Sprint Championships this year.

COVID-19 AND INTERSTATE TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

PA recommend you continue to make yourself aware of information in relation to Coronavirus (COVID-19). The following links go to information provided by the Australian Government, Sports bodies and State and Territory governments.

Please click HERE for general COVID-19 information.

Coming next week is updated COVID-19 guidance for interstate travel.

EVENT MARQUEES

SIRC has advised they will be carrying out renovations to the grandstand. SIRC will be providing a temporary grandstand with large TV screens placed on the grass hill next to the permanent grandstand. This is where many groups have previously put their team marques. A new location for team marques at the SIRC venue will be advised shortly.
