  • How did you get into paddling?
I did Surf Life Saving growing up and in U17’s, I decided to leave behind the beach events and try Surf Ski. My Ski coach suggested I should do some kayaking to improve my technique. Ultimately, I really wanted to be able to get my rating up off the line like Loccy at Ski training.
  • What has been your biggest accomplishment in the sport so far?
4th in the K1 200m at Junior Worlds in 2016.
  • What keeps you busy outside of Kayaking? What is your current Occupation and/or University degree?
I am studying a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours at Macquarie University (2nd year). I also work at the University as a Pre-school Swim teacher and have a role as one of the Athlete Gym Ambassadors there.
  • Who is the greatest Influence on your career?
Richard Brierty – “Dicky” – my Ski coach. He sparked my passion for Ski paddling through making it both challenging and fun. My main sport growing up was 100m sprinting, so paddling was very different to what I was used to. Despite this, the culture of the Avoca Ski community meant I loved the paddling from the beginning.
  • Do you have any superstitions before a race?
I have to shake my head to make sure my sunnies will stay on, even if I have been wearing the same ones without issues for years. If it happens to be overcast, I still shake my head out of habit.
  • What is your favourite course to paddle on?
Champion Lakes (WA) because it’s fast and you feel quicker than you probably are.
  • Previous National Teams:
    2015 & 2016 – Junior World Championships.
