ABOUT PADDLE AUSTRALIA


Paddle Australia (PA) is the peak body for canoeing in Australia. It encompasses all the disciplines of the sport of canoeing: Canoe Polo, Canoe Marathon, Canoe Slalom, Freestyle, Canoe Sprint, Ocean Racing, Wildwater Racing and Recreation are all under the one umbrella of Paddle Australia. Funded by the Australian Sports Commission, Paddle Australia is charged with delivering multi medal outcomes at Olympic Games and World Championships.

THE POSITION


An exciting position is available within the highly successful Australian Canoe Slalom Team. The position will work closely with National Team coaches to ensure future success for the program.
You will be responsible for developing a high-quality coaching and development program within Western Sydney (Penrith), Australia, and build relationships with the local community and stakeholders to develop a strong performance development program.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing high standards of coaching to identified development athletes.
  • Providing a coaching structure that allows for the efficient progression to Junior Elite level.
  • Mentoring a group of locally based coaches to provide coaching to the program.
  • Organising the delivery of a daily training environment at appropriate levels for the program athletes.
  • Contributing to the design and delivery of the Performance Pathway Program for Canoe Slalom, within Western Sydney.
  • Planning, coordinating and delivering a high-quality development program in Western Sydney.
  • Arranging visits to local schools to promote the program. Organising come and try days and recruitment sessions for the program.
  • Educating parents about the sport and helping forge links between new families and local club and state organisation.

SELECTION CRITERIA


Knowledge and experience:

  • Excellent technical knowledge of the sport of Canoe Slalom.
  • Demonstrated coaching experience at a junior level.
  • Devising and executing a long-term training and competition plan to guide development of athletes for peak performance at benchmark events.
  • Working within high performance environments, developing potential emerging athletes into elite performers.
  • Working within a high performance team to actively contribute to performance and life skill improvements with athletes.
  • Ability to work either as a part of a team or unsupervised, demonstrating initiative and drive.

Personal characteristics:

  • Willingness to learn, demonstrate initiative and ability to prioritise demands.
  • Clear communicator who exercises sound judgement and maintains confidentiality and uses discretion.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships within the sport.
  • Passionate, enthusiastic team player.
  • Available for ‘out of hours’ work and interstate/international travel.
