That’s a Wrap ! – Wildwater Training Camp

Australian Canoeing held a very exciting Wildwater Training Camp at Penrith Whitewater Stadium over the weekend (28th and 29th April). The training camp was attended by enthusiastic up and coming downriver paddlers and some of our experienced Wildwater paddlers. The camp was led by Robert and Alex McIntyre with the assistance of Peter McIntyre.

For a number of these younger paddlers this camp was about a number of aspects from technical skills based advice about their paddling, testing their speed on flatwater and whitewater, but most of all how to go to the next level of paddling in some bigger water.

The athletes undertook whitewater sessions to help understand lines throughout the course and ensuring each athlete felt confident in taking on the harder water. Technique sessions were also held on the flat water with a time trial to help athletes track their progress throughout their individual training.

The camp was enjoyed by all attendees and they all left with excitement to attend our next camp.

Congratulations to all paddlers for stepping up and extending themselves and a big thank you to the parents for not only allowing us to challenge their children but also supporting Australian Canoeing and the camp. Australian Canoeing is planning to run similar camps in the future to ensure consistent development throughout all levels of Wildwater paddling in Australia.
